Biodiversity 101 for LGUs
The BPP Project has recently produced a web-based seminar (Webinar) module entitled, Biodiversity 101, the first of a series of webinar on biodiversity (BD) to be developed by BPP as part of the training program to prepare and develop the capacities of newly-elected local officials. This pioneering initiative, launched last September 5, stemmed from a new partnership forged with DILG’s Local Government Academy, the government’s lead provider of capacity building services to LGUs and their personnel.
This undertaking and knowledge product packaged into an output-oriented audio-visual presentation features a brief presentation on
the state of biodiversity in the country and discussion on laws and policies to serve as guide for LGUs in integrating biodiversity conservation into their local governance plans and programs. At the end of the module, participating NEOs are required to submit an accomplished biodiversity action plan to DILG.
As of this writing, the module has been uploaded online on LGA’s NEO Webinar Portal while copies are being disseminated to BPP national agency and site partners for their public awareness activities and other mainstreaming work. The module will also find home on BPP’s website in the coming weeks.
Incidentally, this is the first time that biodiversity conservation was included as a training topic under the Environment, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction cluster. It is expected that succeeding modules will underscore more focused topics such as biodiversity mainstreaming, biodiversity-friendly agricultural practices and biodiversity-friendly enterprises.
